Acquired Ptosis
Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid from its normal position, such that it may cover part of the eye. It can be mild and primarily affect the appearance of the eye, or it can be more pronounced and also affect the field of vision. Ptosis may be present at birth or during childhood, in which case it is known as congenital ptosis. If it appears later in life, it is known as acquired ptosis. In this series, we will discuss acquired ptosis, the key reasons that may lead to its appearance, how it affects vision and eye health, and when a patient may need surgical treatment.
